"Today, The West Whiteland Community remembers FF Colin Reedy as he died in the Line of Duty responding to an incident one year ago," the West Whiteland Fire Department said in a release on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Reedy was killed in a crash as he and his partner and fellow firefighter, Emily Gindele, were on their way to an emergency call, as Daily Voice previously reported. There was a heavy rain at the time, which caused their vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023.
He was pronounced dead at the scene while Gindele, a 24-year-old probationary firefighter, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, authorities said at the time. The couple had been together for five years at the time of his death and were shopping for rings together when the emergency call came in that day.
Reedy's friends, family, and fellow firefighters hosted an Eagles watch party in his honor at the West Whiteland Fire Hall, according to 6ABC News.
His name was also placed on a memorial plaque outside of the fire hall, according to the fire department.
